WJ’s Sporting Success

At WJ we are defined by our people, and in order to allow them and the company as a whole to flourish and reach new heights, teamwork and a healthy body and mind are crucial.

WJ have a long established sporting pedigree on all levels with their involvement with Team Frankie’s, who have taken part in the prestigious Tour of Sharjah cycling races, to helping support Eton Manor Rugby Football Club Ladies’ Under 13 team, and WJ’s Middle Eastern Offices have got in on the act by helping to support and encourage all employees to get active!

It started with just two HR staff, who were eager to play badminton for fun and exercise, however this group grew rapidly to include other colleagues who were eager to join in.

Once WJ received an invitation for a local Basketball and Indoor Cricket competition it became a perfect opportunity to encourage more staff on all levels to get in on the act, and with the financial and supportive backing of the management Cricket and Basketball teams were formed.

The sports teams have proven to be very popular with the staff. Payroll Officer Tausif, appointed to the prestigious position of captain of the cricket team, said:

“Being assigned as the Captain of the Cricket Team is somehow a big responsibility which tested and improved my leadership skills. In the team, I always make sure that we practice enthusiasm and positive attitude. Sports really is a key for good communication and teamwork. Personally, I felt like my stamina has increased because of joining these sports. I want to suggest adding more sports in the future like chess, volleyball or bowling.”

Not only does the formation of these sports teams help employees enjoy their spare time, but the bond between players will help improve teamwork within the company, which we can take from the cricket pitch to the construction site. Design Manager Warren believes this will benefit employees and the company as a whole:

“This sports activity that we are having is like a team building. I believe this activity gives our Labourers a feeling of importance. It makes them feel they are really part of WJ”

This feeling was reiterated by Admin Assistant Anu:

“It is creating a good relationship between staffs and Labourers. Playing sports with your colleagues form a Team Spirit”
