The M74 Raith Interchange is part of a transport improvement scheme located in Scotland. Our client on this project is Ferrovial Lagan Joint Venture (FLJV) on behalf of Transport Scotland.
The first M74 project update appears in Issue 29 of The Wet End (available now from UK office!)
The project dewatering requirements included the lowering the water table to relieve pressure on contiguous piles during the construction of a new underpass for the A725, and to ensure that the earthworks operation remained dry.
To date, three quarters of the installation is up and running with successful drawdown levels achieved in the first three phases of work outputting 105l/s of groundwater. Installation should be complete by the end of July and the system will continue until the end of the year when FLJV anticipate practical completion of the new road.
Drilling crews featuring: Michael Crowley, Alex Walford, Daniel Ashton and Martin Barton had been busy installing deep wells since February. Also our operatives: Stef Thomas, Darek Zieba, Paul Barnes and electrician, Rob Whitby have been hard at work alongside them and have (at the time of writing) successfully installed three of the 4 phases of pumps and we have successfully achieved drawdown in these areas in plenty time for our client’s on-going operations. Stef and Darek can look forward to the challenge of maintaining the system until our client’s practical completion that is anticipated for December this year.
