Remediation & Treatment

Both environmental legislation and social pressures require legacy contamination and recent spills to be cleaned up.

Contaminated groundwater can cause a hazard to public health so it needs to be treated. Groundwater remediation is the process used to treat polluted groundwater by removing the pollutants or converting them into harmless matters. There are many techniques used in groundwater remediation and these include chemical, biological and physical technologies. Many treatments use a combination of these techniques.

  • Biological Treatments: Biological treatments include the use of bioaugmentation, bioventing, biosparging, bioslurping, and phytoremediation.
  • Chemical Treatments: Chemical treatments include the use of chemical precipitation, ion exchange, carbon absorption, chemical oxidation and surfactant enhanced recovery.
  • Physical Treatments: Physical treatment include the use of pump and treat, air sparging and dual phase vacuum extraction.
